What matters you the most a big deal or a smile on your kid’s face once you are back at home. Things are not as good as it looks like. You have to make many sacrifices, prioritize the roles over the other when you are a dad and an entrepreneur. Most of the successful entrepreneurs are fighting with balancing their work and personal life. Here are some easy ways to keep a sense of balance between a successful entrepreneur and a great parent.
1. Align your priorities and try to spend time as much as possible with your family. For some money, recognition is the priority whereas some escape from work for family duties. What if you ignore an imperative presentation because you have to attend your kid’s annual function? At times you will feel frustrated when you are not able to maintain the balance. Does balance exist? Why I chose to have kids if I am not ready to take the responsibilities. Realign your priorities and you will feel the change. Life is a trade-offs where you can be either a successful parent or the CEO of a company.
2. Train your staff to support you from prioritizing your family above work. Make sure they are equally respected. Arrange some short tours for the workforce who achieved the end month targets. These fringe benefits could be a win-win situation for employees at the same time creating excitement in the office. For entrepreneurs who give importance to money and personal freedom for them starting a family and running a business is not the best idea.
3. It is very important to take some free time for yourself to avoid burn-out. Take a day off from the work and pursue your hobby or do something that motivates you. It is hard for you to take care of the business and the child if you are tired. But that doesn’t mean you just relax without indulging in any activity. It is important that you should pursue your unique hobbies that will re-energize you for the rest of the week.
4. Staying at two places simultaneously cannot be possible for you so train your staff and delegates in the manner that if you didn’t make up for an urgent meeting or a serious verdict, you can rely on your teammates to make strong decisions on your behalf. As you are not available everytime so cross train your staff to perform multiple tasks at a time.
5. There are certain situations when you have to focus on work although the family is important. In that case try to identify the emergencies when your work requires full attention of yours. It may be a hard decision to choose either of any, in that situation but ultimately you will feel you took the right decision. You are not wrong but it is the culture that has put material success above the family success and now it has to be taken down.
6. There are times where an entrepreneur can easily get caught up with business meetings and seminars forgetting about the home. But think about the kid, he/she require a lot of time from you, so make it a main concern that you cherish time with your family still getting work done. Make up the strategy to follow a routine and spend day time with your kid or whenever you are free. You can take the follow-up of your work when everyone is sleeping. Raising a kid is hard work with professional life. Being a good parent will affect your company in the same way as being a successful entrepreneur will have its repercussions on your family. You will have inadequate time and therefore careful planning of time is necessary.
It might sound you impossible but these tips will make it work. It is inspiring when you hear the laugh of your child and simultaneously a great day when you are at work. Being a father and an entrepreneur will enrich your life though there are many sacrifices but worth it.
Let’s slowly redefine and understand the true meaning of success. Money and power will no longer be the indicator of success but the relationship with your partner, friends and child could be.
